FOR FASTENER MAKERS

Fastener software that prices per thousand and knows your real cost

Fasteners sell per hundred or per thousand, but the costs arrive per kg: wire, heat treatment, plating. In between sit heading, threading and die changes that decide whether an order makes money. Kojo builds each quote from your own rates, keeps wire prices current and follows the order through the floor to payment.

HOW THE WORK IS PRICED

What really sets the price in fasteners.

Wire is the biggest cost. Bolts, screws and nuts start as wire rod or drawn wire in coils, bought per kg: low-carbon steels for general grades, boron steels such as 10B21 for 8.8 and 10.9, alloy steels such as EN19 for the highest grades, and stainless for corrosion resistance. The price per thousand starts from the gross wire weight per piece, including cut-off and trim scrap, at today's wire price. Because wire follows the steel market, many OEM buyers agree a rate linked to a steel price index or revise it every quarter.

Conversion is priced process by process: drawing, annealing and phosphating of wire, cold or hot heading on multi-station formers, trimming, thread rolling or nut tapping, hardening and tempering for property classes such as 8.8 and 10.9, then a finish such as zinc plating, zinc flake, phosphate and oil or hot-dip galvanising, with baking after plating for high-strength parts. A former is fast once it runs, so die setup and tool wear, not cycle time, often decide the cost of a small lot. Heat treatment and plating are frequently done by outside vendors at a rate per kg, and specials carry tooling and development charges on top.

THE HEADACHES

Where the time and margin go.

Costs per kg, prices per thousand

Wire, heat treatment and plating are bought by weight, but customers buy by count. Get the piece weight wrong once and every line of the quote is off.

Short runs on fast machines

A former makes money while it runs, not while dies are being changed. Small orders priced without their setup time quietly lose money.

Thin margins, moving wire prices

Standard fasteners trade on small margins. A wire price rise that isn't passed on in time can take the profit out of a whole month's orders.

Thousands of near-identical parts

Every diameter, length, grade, head style and finish is its own part number. Quoting them by hand from a spreadsheet is slow, and two people rarely reach the same price.

THE WORKFLOW

From enquiry to payment.

  1. 01

    Enquiry

The buyer sends a standard reference such as ISO, DIN or IS, or a drawing for specials, with size, property class, finish, quantity and packing.

  2. 02

    Costing and quote

Work out wire grade and size, gross weight per piece, heading route, threading, heat treatment, finish and packing. Quote per hundred or per thousand, plus tooling for specials.

  3. 03

    Wire preparation and tooling

Buy wire rod or drawn wire by grade, then draw, anneal and coat it as the part needs. Specials may need new dies and punches made first.

  4. 04

    Heading and threading

Set dies on the former, run the lot, trim and roll threads. Each shift records output, rejects, downtime and wire used.

  5. 05

    Heat treatment, finishing and testing

Harden and temper in-house or at a vendor, then plate or coat. Check hardness, proof load and coating thickness, and prepare test certificates.

  6. 06

    Packing, dispatch and payment

Count by weight, pack and label, dispatch with invoice and certificates, then follow up on payment.

STARTER TO ENTERPRISE

The same system as you grow.

Start with quoting, add production, inventory and payments, then scale across plants with integrations and a dedicated support team.

STARTER

Start with quoting. Wire prices, process rates and margins go into Kojo, so standard parts and specials are priced the same way every time, by anyone on the team.

GROWTH

Add BOM costing, inventory and shop-floor logging to see real wire use, former output and rejects against the quote, and add payment reminders for dealer and OEM accounts.

ENTERPRISE

For makers with separate heading, heat treatment or plating units, Enterprise adds multi-plant roll-up reporting, an open API and integrations for accounting and ERP systems, a dedicated support team and an uptime SLA.

NUMBERS TO WATCH

What to track every week.

WIRE CONSUMED PER THOUSAND PIECES

Wire is the biggest cost, and a little extra per piece adds up fast over millions of pieces.

FORMER UTILISATION

Running time against changeover time shows whether short runs are eating your capacity.

REJECTION AFTER HEAT TREATMENT AND PLATING

A part rejected at the end has absorbed every process cost, and often vendor charges too.

SELLING PRICE AGAINST CURRENT WIRE COST

The gap between your rate per thousand and today's wire cost per thousand tells you when a price revision is due.

QUESTIONS

Fasteners on Kojo.

Our costs are per kg but we sell per thousand. Can Kojo handle that?

During onboarding, Kiviro sets up your own rates and costing rules, including how wire, heat treatment and plating costs by weight turn into a price per piece or per thousand. The quote engine then applies them the same way on every quote.

We have thousands of part numbers in Excel. Do we have to type them in again?

No. As part of setup, Kiviro brings in your existing Excel data, such as customers and parts, and trains your team. The data stays yours and you can export it at any time.

How long before we can send quotes from Kojo?

Quoting usually goes live in about three weeks. Kiviro first configures your machines, rates, margins and quote templates. You can start with a free 30-minute visit in India or a remote demo.
