AA 6082-T6 / T651 (HE30). 6082 is a heat-treatable aluminium–magnesium–silicon alloy with a high manganese content, known in the UK and India as HE30. In T6/T651 it has the highest strength of the common 6000-series alloys and excellent corrosion resistance, so it is widely used for structural parts and machined plate and bar, often in place of 6061.

6082-T6/T651 is the usual stock alloy for machined plate and bar in the UK and India, and it cuts much like 6061. With a proper aluminium chip-breaker it forms tight chip coils; without one it strings around the work. Use sharp, polished uncoated carbide with a positive rake, high surface speed and plenty of emulsion coolant to prevent built-up edge. The as-extruded surface is coarser than on 6061 or 6063, so allow a skim cut where finish matters. Thick plate can move after heavy roughing: rough, release the clamps, then finish. Deburr exits, as burrs roll over.

PROCESSING
| Heat treatment | Heat-treatable. Common tempers are O (annealed), T4 (solution treated and naturally aged), T6 (solution treated and artificially aged) and T651 (T6 plus stretching to relieve stress). |
| Welding | Very good by TIG or MIG, usually with 4043 filler (5356 when joining to 7005), though strength is lower in the weld zone than in the T6 parent metal. |
| Supplied as | Round bar, Flat bar, Plate, Sheet, Extrusion, Tube |
QUESTIONS
Yes. HE30 is the old British designation for extruded 6082 (H30 for the alloy in general), and the name is still widely used by Indian and UK stockists. The current European name is EN AW-6082 (AlSi1MgMn), and the nearest Indian Standard grade is 64430.
Slightly. Typical T6 values for 6082 are about 330–340 MPa tensile and 270–310 MPa yield, against about 310 MPa and 270–276 MPa for 6061-T6, although the specification minimums overlap. For most machined parts the two are interchangeable; follow the drawing where an alloy is specified.
Yes, by TIG or MIG, usually with 4043 filler wire (5356 when joining to 7005). The weld zone loses strength compared with the T6 parent metal, so welded structures must be designed to the lower weld-zone value.
